Santa Barbara Hotel

Miami Beach, Florida | 2021

Miami Beach’s South Beach neighborhood is a dense, urban district that is completely built to its edges. The site is located within the Museum Historic District, and thus must retain its streetside character to preserve the neighborhood’s low-scale pedestrian feel.

The Santa Barbara represents a very familiar Florida building type: the garden apartment. The architect’s design strategy maintains the horizontality of the original structure by expanding the modest typology with a slender vertical addition kept to the rear.

The Santa Barbra was originally a standalone project for the firm but became part of the Hotel Greystone.
