Nautilius Apartments

Located on Washington Street in Hollywood, the existing 8 acre Nautilus site comprises two mid story buildings containing 193 unuits (one 6 and one 7 stories) constructed in 1973. The Owner proposed to add a third building to the site of 84 units, enclosing the third side of a central courtyard area, and providing a presence on Hillcrest Drive to the south.

The proposed bar building demonstrates a simple and efficient solution with minimal unit types alternating along the length of the building to provide movement and variation. The units are grouped in three volumes unified by a singular frame, and connected on the north side by an open air walkway articulated using rain screens, the stair towers and the offset elevator core.
