Hotel Greystone

Miami Beach, Florida | 2020

Located in the Museum Historic District of Miami Beach, this project site comprises two contributing historic buildings of different eras, each a strong example of its style. What began as separate renovation and expansion projects were assembled to create an eclectic boutique hotel complex that layers seamlessly into the low-scale character of the district and can be understood as a microcosm of the city.

The future of Miami Beach’s built environment, in the face of encroaching sea level rise and considering the district’s economic potential, is to protect existing historic assets while exploring incremental additions. Such knitting and weaving is a specialty of the architect, creating new layers of development that can be read as an urban assemblage. In the context of bringing together these two disparate buildings, the urban fabric of the neighborhood was maintained while a new addition was proposed at the back of one of the structures.
