1100 Lincoln Road

Miami Beach, Florida | ongoing

25 years ago, a young S+A designed the adaptive use of Chase Federal Bank (August Geiger, 1947) to house a Banana Republic store. The building projects a monumental civic presence on Lincoln Road. Its modern classical façade of quarry keystone, aluminum and glass were matched on the interior with extensive marble and terrazzo, as well as decorative metal fittings. Banking windows were converted to cash & wraps; check-writing counters became display platforms; and the vault was transformed into dressing rooms. After many years, Banana vacated the building in 2021. Starting in 2023 S+A has been working with the current owner to transform the building into its next iteration.
